News reporter and author Elmer Davis once said, “This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” On Monday, Nov. 11, Morgan Middle school students celebrated Veteran’s Day by honoring the many brave Morgan residents who have fought valiantly for our rights and freedoms.

Grappling with a budgetary shortfall of over $300,000, and upcoming health care reform implementation, the Morgan School District has been making cuts that have affected many area bus routes.  The changes affect students, parents, bus drivers and administrators.

Photos of a black bear crossing the freeway near “the narrows” just past the Croydon exit have become famous, circulating around the internet and featured on KSL.  Henefer resident Steve Richins had heard rumors of a bear sighted in the area, so he and his wife went out on a bear hunt, and were successfully able to shoot the uncommon photos.

Barbara Anderson has been at the heart of the Weber State University Morgan Center since the office opened in the summer of 2001.  She has seen incredible growth in the classes and services offered during the time she has been director. She is retiring from her position as the Director of the WSU Morgan Center and as an employee of Weber State University this spring after 11 years.  Pam Carter will be the new director of the center.

With the completion of the high school basketball season comes the time for individual awards to be handed out. The Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune recently posted their All State teams, and several players from both the Morgan Trojan boys and girls squad were recognized for their successful seasons.

Valentine’s Day has come and gone once again.  Cupid has retreated to his lover’s lair for another year to refill his quiver, rest his weary wings and hopefully work on his aim for next year’s heartfelt hunt.  To those of us whose hearts were not found in Cupid’s crosshairs, or whose hearts were pierced by the painful arrows (or bullets) of rejection, loneliness, or loss, may my words be as an arrow of peace straight into your heart.

The sounds of honor and respect, could be felt as the audience stood, while a color guard of Cub and Boy Scouts, presented the colors of the state and national flags. The voices of the kindergarten children recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

    The Lady Trojans had the first home game against Skyview on Wednesday September 1st and looked to be definitely ready for a great season. 
The Freshmen had a close first game with a win of 25-22, but then got rolling winning the next two 25-16 and 15-10.
