The fourth quarter started this week for all schools within the Morgan County School District on the traditional quarter system.  Fourth quarter at Morgan Elementary School is often our busiest time for learning.  Along with end-of-level state core tests and the final academic push for the school year, many exciting learning activities dominate our calendar.  The following is a sample from just the past four school days!

Local writer Jeremy Taylor had a dream to become a published author when he started his business, C.N.F.I. Publishing (Creative Notion Foundation of Imagination), in 2003.  He has accomplished this by believing in his dreams and working towards them.  “I do believe that if an individual believes deeply enough one can accomplish their goals!” Taylor expresses on his blog http://cnfi-publishingproducts.blogspot.com,   “I had to believe in my own abilities and in my dreams.”

More than a century and a half ago, one American author wrote of the cold, desolate, distrustful, phantoms that invariably haunt the mind, on the eve of adventurous enterprises, to warn us back within the boundaries of ordinary life.

“The child’s first and most important teacher is the parent.”

The students from Mountain Green Elementary School were pleased to have Rick Tolman, author of the book I Saw A Purple Bubble, visit their school.   Mr. Tolman spent a full day at the school reading to individual classes and talking to the students about the importance of using their imagination.  The students were absolutely delighted with the book and thoroughly enjoyed the time that Mr. Tolman spent talking to them about why and how he wrote the book, the beautiful illustrations that are in the book, and the process that he went through to get the book published.  Author visits are always fun learning events for the students and we appreciate the time that Mr. Tolman spent to help cultivate the students’ love of books.

Just when it seems that only negative headlines prevail, business corruption is increasing and a ‘survival of the fittes’t mindset seems the reality of the world, Salt Lake City RIGS brings the refreshing and sometimes surprising hope that perhaps we are getting some things right after all.

The genealogical community is filled with opportunities for service and with those who give service.  I am so thankful to all the genealogists who give of their time to help others be successful.  I have rarely seen any group of individuals who are so willing to give of their personal time.

Last week we had a copy customer come in and ask to use our computer to pull up the file they wanted to print from Dropbox.  This was a first for us, but I think not the last time it will happen.  I was reading a blog post about Dropbox and why the author no longer carried flash drives.  It got me thinking about the fact that I rarely use flash drives anymore.
