Mary Jane Wright Straight’s life was celebration of family, art, education, and conversation. On November 20, 2012 she passed away surrounded by her children and their spouses. Mary was born to Clark and Elizabeth Wright in Price, Utah, on December 22, 1930. The third of four children, Mary grew up in Morgan, Utah, and graduated from Morgan High. After a time working for the California Dairy Council and Port of San Diego, she returned and completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah.

Every year, Mountain Green Elementary fourth grade students visit the state’s capital and receive a tour where they explore the different rooms where each branch of government operates. This year, though, thanks to the efforts of Mountain Green resident and former Utah Representative Brad Winn, our fourth grade students received a special treat.

Have you ever considered how you could make a difference in Morgan County?  Now is your chance.  This year there will be elections for three council seats and three school board seats in the county.  While the presidential election may be catching all of the headlines, the local positions in Morgan County have, perhaps, a greater effect on life in the county than any of the national seats.  The following positions are up for election on the county council:

The Morgan Elementary fourth grade recently went on a field trip to the Utah State Capitol.  When we arrived at the State Capitol Building, we were taken right to the gold room where we met Utah’s first lady.

In the spring and summer of 1912, James C. Hogensen toured the state of Utah hoping to organize Boys Potato Growing Clubs in every county in the state. These potato clubs marked the beginning of 4-H in Utah. 4-H has come a long ways since 1912! Today common 4-H activities include robotics, GPS programs, and ATV safety. Even though 4-H projects today differ greatly from 4-H in the past, the goals of 4-H have stayed the same. The mission of Utah 4-H is to help youth gain knowledge, build character, develop leadership qualities, and learn to serve their community.

Eva Colleen Jensen Barth passed away on June 29, 2010 at the age of 80.  She was born at home in Milton, Utah on December 21, 1929, to Eva Mary Varney and Lincoln Martin Jensen.
