Flooding challenges continue in the county as record rainfall adds to already fully saturated ground.  Rainfall across the state are at record levels  and flooding is occurring all along the course of the Weber River.

Mayor Egbert reported to the city council on Tuesday that the city is taking action to prepare for potential flooding.  The city contracted with Mecham Brothers to clean the canal near the home of Susan Ralston and also built a dike to try to keep her home from flooding.  The also have placed sand bags in other locations.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.  Wars are always significant for genealogists.  They create many new records.  In the United States, wars create draft, pay, enlistment, discharge, and pension records, just to name a few.  The Civil War is no exception and there are a wealth of records in which your ancestral information may be found if they were living in the United States at the time.

It may be jumping the gun to write about it, but this last week was an exciting milestone.  It is now less than one year before the 1940 US Census will be released.  For the first time NARA (the National Archives and Records Administration) will be releasing a digitized version of the census at their facility on the day the census is released, April 2, 2012.

One of the questions I am often asked is, “When are all the family history centers going to close since all the information will be (or is) online.”  Each time I receive this question I shake my head a little in despair.

People in Morgan County have been talking about busses for a long time. Not about the cost or the schedule. Not about accessible lifts and door to door pickups. Not even about the lack of bus passes.

The Utah Legislature is considering a bill that would require emissions testing in Morgan.  Utah House Bill number 96, if adopted, would require counties “with a geographic boundary that is adjacent to a county required under federal law to utilize a motor vehicle emissions inspection and maintenance program or in which an emissions inspection and maintenance program is necessary to attain any national ambient air quality standard shall comply with the provisions of this section[requiring emissions testing]”.

It was a divided discussion in the work meeting at the county building on Tuesday night.  The meeting included most department heads in the county as well as nearly all of the elected officials.
