The horrific tragedy that swept over the nation this past week with the senseless loss of innocent lives at Sandy Hook Elementary has saddened all of our hearts.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of these children and to the heroic efforts of their teachers and principal who gave their own lives trying to protect them.

**TV tower upgrades cause hiccup in channel 11 reception
On Nov. 1, Morgan’s digit to analog television conversion was finalized with $71,000 worth of equipment installation. However, older TV sets are still having problems displaying the three KBYU channels, or channel 11.
Morgan County Councilwoman Ronda Kippen advised residents to rescan their television in order to ensure that channel 11 is reprogrammed properly. Those residents with newer television sets that automatically rescan whenever they are turned on likely have no problems receiving channel 11.

The Morgan County Council has agreed to purchase the former bus garage on State Street from the Morgan County School District for an undisclosed amount to be paid over a three-year period.
The facility will be used as storage for various county equipment including sheriff department and emergency vehicles. Presently, a majority of such equipment, valued at several hundred thousand dollars, is stored outside and subject to weather deterioration.
Chairwoman Tina Kelley cast one of two opposing votes, saying the county had other financial priorities such as replacing a boiler for the county building.

Max Robinson is nearing 90 and is a great story-teller.  He is a walking history book of Morgan County. Max Robinson lives on Robinson Lane in Mountain Green; you know when you have a lane named after you that you are a landmark. His ancestors were some of the first settlers in the area, and the Robinson family has the distinction of being the family that is still here.

In recent days many have heard about the “Bomb Plot” at a nearby high school. It was an experience that everyone hopes they will be able to avoid.  I am thankful the district and school administration from that nearby school had policies and procedures in place they could follow. My hat is off to those district and local administrators who dealt with that difficult situation and were able to keep all students safe and parents informed of what was happening.

It was 10 years ago Sept. 11, 2001 when the great tragedy hit our country with terrorist running airplanes into the twin towers in New York City. It was a moment I’ll never forget, and we must never forget the fragilities of freedom, and the many lives that were ended and taken in that moment of tyranny.  Sometimes it’s all too easy to forget and many of us don’t wish to remember tragedy, when America was under attack, but we must remember even the beautiful heroes proved in liberating strife, and the many acts of compassion and unity that followed that tragic day.

Sheriff Breshears has had many challenges in his first two weeks in office.  As he took office he was already faced with a department poised to hire four new officers to fill vacancies left by officers who had left to pursue higher pay, to replace his position, and to evaluate potential replacements for an officer on leave.  He had stated in his campaign that his goal was to persuade the county council to raise the pay for officers to try to head off the turnover problem faced by the department.

For the last several years the county has been considering a new building for county services. The county currently leases space for the animal shelter from a local veterinarian, Dr Lott. The cost of this contract could pay for a bond of approximately $350,000. The county is also hopeful that they can obtain a grant from the NRA for $50,000 for a classroom in the building that could be used for many different applications, including hunter’s safety and other training programs.
