Another beautiful weather day greeted the track athletes as they unloaded the buses at Stansbury High School to compete for the Region XI Track and Field Championship.  The two day meet is always exciting as it brings to a close the months of hard work and training that the athletes have extended to be ready to battle for the region trophy.  The first day of running events are all trials except for the 1600m.  The top 8 times in each event are brought back on the second day for a one heat final.  Field events are competed on both days with finals taking place on each day in each event.  Athletes work very hard to qualify the first day for the finals on the second day.   The top four places in each event qualify for the state meet including relays.

March 28 the Trojan Track Team traveled to Stansbury for the second track meet of the year. This was the first time Morgan has had a track meet at the new region member Stansbury.  Tooele, Grantsville, Dugway, Wendover, Stansbury  and Morgan competed on this overcast and cold day.  Many parents followed their sons and daughters to give them the expected Morgan support and help cheer on the team.

Wednesday, March 21, started the track season for the 2012 edition of the Trojan Track Team.  Morgan hosted a five team region meet with Bear River, Tooele, Ben Lomond, and visitor St. Joseph.  Weather is always a concern for a track meet but the athletes had sunshine and warmth and no wind, a great day to begin the season.  The first meet is always exciting because there are newcomers to the team that are just seeing their first track competition, and the returning team members are anxious to see if they can improve on last years’ marks.  Coaches have the very same feeling as the athletes; what will the new members bring to the team and how well will the older athletes perform with an added year of experience.

Morgan started the season March 6 against defending 1A State runner up St. Joseph’s.  Senior Josh Holman found the net to keep the game tied at half time.  But as the snow moved in, the Trojans went cold falling to the Jayhawks 4-1.  The following day, Morgan traveled to Roy to face a powerful 4A team.  The Royals shut Morgan down, winning 8-0.

Today marked the start of the 2011-12 winter season for Utah’s newest ski resort Eagle Point. The opening signifies that every Utah ski and snowboard resort is open for the season. A fresh blanket of The Greatest Snow on Earth® during the past 24 hours added two to eight inches to resort snow totals. This new snowfall, in addition to the past weekend’s storm cycle, has created wonderful conditions for skiing and snowboarding in Utah.

Morgan Elementary has had the great opportunity to receive several outstanding new teachers this year, including John Kelly.  The elementary school has warmly welcomed this new special education teacher. The kids especially have quickly grown to love him. He can recall countless recesses of being mobbed and chased, but he absolutely loves it. In fact, that is one of the reasons why he loves teaching.
