Recently, two experiences have caused me to reflect on the Vietnam War.  In May, my husband and I visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.  Monday, May 28, chairs in the area in front of the wall sat empty awaiting the arrival of dignitaries for the Memorial Day service where President Obama gave his address. In addition to honoring Vietnam veterans in his speech, he set aside May 28 - Nov. 11 of this year to honor those who gave their lives to fight in this war, one of the most controversial wars of the 20th century.

Memorial Day is a great time for family history.  Each year my family makes an outing to three or four cemeteries.  A part of our outing is that we have breakfast at the same restaurant each year.  While it may be true that the kids enjoy breakfast more than the cemetery visits, our annual trek has become family tradition, one that my kids even seem to enjoy and look forward to.

Do you have plans for Memorial Day weekend? If you don’t, then you’re in luck. And if you do, you may want to reconsider spending some time at one of northern Utah’s most spectacular community events.
