baseball team left Spanish Fork on May 11 with an invitation to the second round of the state baseball playoffs.  After dropping their first game to top-seed Snow Canyon, the team routed the Uintah Utes, 14-4.  It was a balanced attack, with several Trojans amassing hits, RBIs and runs scored.  Two other Region 11 teams, Stansbury
and Grantsville, were ousted from the tournament, while Bear River moved on to the next round as well.

After months of feeding and caring for their animals, over 160 hard working kids were able to sell their animals to generous and eager buyers.  The junior livestock show and sale are the final event of a program encouraging youth to raise and care for livestock animals.  The annual event allows kids to take responsibility for their animals and learn how a business is run.

When you drive by old homes in Morgan County, do you ever wonder how long they have been there and what tales they could tell?  One beautiful old home I have always admired is “The Hubbard House” on 5648  W. Old Hwy Rd., Mountain Green which is 85 years old.  The home was originally built by the Ostler family in 1927.

The majority of information about the Thornleys, Stuarts, and Ostlers is taken from Mountain Green, the Beautiful.  Additional information was provided by Carol Warner Ralphs, Bob Poll, Bob Huerta and Don Hubbard and the Morgan Co. Historical Society.

The Morgan High girls basketball team, just like the boys squad, hosted the forth place team out of Region 12 in a first round state home playoff game on Friday Feb. 17. It just happened to be the same Spanish Fork team, and the Lady Trojans were not in a very hospitable mood.

This season has been the best I have seen these boys play with their hearts.  As this season comes to an end, we see the tears of dedication and of sacrifice come to a halt.  The last region game against the Spanish Fork Don’s was a hard loss at 20 to 35. However it was fought well and the Morgan Varsity football made some very strategic plays and grew together in trusting each other, trusting the coaches, and showing unity as a team. Spanish Fork commented that this game and playing against the Morgan Trojans, was the toughest game they have played against all year.

Morgan faced off against the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles.  Maple Mountain High School opened in fall of 2009 as a brand new school.  It is located in Spanish Fork (on the border of Spanish Fork and Mapleton) but pulls in all high school students living in Mapleton and some students living in eastern Spanish Fork.

The Escalante-Dominguez Expedition of 1776

Two hundred and thirty four years ago this week, in the same year the Declaration of Independence was signed, a group of Spanish explorers entered present-day Utah Valley. Led by two Franciscan friars named Silvestre Velez de Escalante and Francisco Dominguez, the expedition was launched to find a northern path from New Mexico to one of Spain's newest colonies, California.
