In the spring and summer of 1912, James C. Hogensen toured the state of Utah hoping to organize Boys Potato Growing Clubs in every county in the state. These potato clubs marked the beginning of 4-H in Utah. 4-H has come a long ways since 1912! Today common 4-H activities include robotics, GPS programs, and ATV safety. Even though 4-H projects today differ greatly from 4-H in the past, the goals of 4-H have stayed the same. The mission of Utah 4-H is to help youth gain knowledge, build character, develop leadership qualities, and learn to serve their community.
