As a very concerned citizen, I would like to share some totally disturbing facts about the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) which is quickly looming before us.  It will affect EVERYONE especially seniors, the disabled, babies born with defects, etc.  Most Americans are against it; only 12percent in a recent poll felt it would be a positive for Americans yet, the powers in Washington are set on giving us this beginning of socialized medicine.

There has been significant focus on the Social Security Death Index by Congress in the last year.  It is a good example of government reacting to public misunderstanding and actually making a problem they are trying to solve worse rather than better.

Morgan resident Jimmy Jones, a 5th grade teacher at Cook Elementary School in Syracuse, Davis School District, has been selected from a pool of more than 300 applicants to participate in the Library of Congress “Teaching with Primary Sources Summer Teacher Institute” during the week of July 16-20, 2012.

Saturday, July 14, at 6 p.m., Morgan City will be bringing you a free concert at Riverside Park. The concert will feature Amy Oaks Baker, daughter of Dallin H. Oaks.  Grammy nominated artist Jenny Oaks Baker is one of America’s most accomplished violinists.  She received her Master of Music degree from the renowned Juilliard School in New York.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 was passed by a bipartisan congress in late 2010. The Act recognized that foods and beverages sold in schools were generally of poor quality and changed the requirements for school meals and for the school environment in which the meals are served.

The Library of Congress has launched a new service that helps to bring the past to life.  The service is called the national jukebox.  It includes access for streaming audio to more than 10,000 historical recordings.
