I start this week’s article with a confession.  I love elementary school libraries.  A great school library serves as the figurative, and occasionally, the literal center of the school.  Many of the highlights of my career have happened in school libraries, from staff celebrations to parent committee meetings; from sharing my favorite book with students to listening as they share theirs.  The elementary school library, in my mind, is the family room of the school.  So, with this obvious bias, allow me to explain why Morgan Elementary’s library is an essential part of our system.

Ralph S. Carter celebrated his 95th birthday at a family dinner this week.  Ralph was born in Porterville, Morgan County, Utah on Aug. 27, 1917, to Levi Alfred and Clara P. Carter.  He graduated from Morgan County schools.  Ralph married Fern Porter on Dec. 13, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS temple.

Our sweet, loving wife and mother Fern Porter Carter, 91, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Family Tree Assisted Living Center in Morgan, Utah.  She was born in Porterville, Utah on April 6, 1921 to Franklin Sylvanus Porter and Emma Mae Durrant.  She attended school in Porterville and Morgan.

Six weeks ago any bugs spotted around Morgan Elementary would be squished, swatted or exterminated on the spot.  Now there is a celebrated multi-legged creature crawling through the halls of the school.

Gene and Lillian Carter of Morgan will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary and Gene’s 80th birthday on Saturday, March 12 at an open house held at the Morgan LDS Rock Church.
The couple was married March 10, 1950 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on October 16, 1954. Over the years they have both served in many capacities in their church.

Elder Dane Craig Carter, son of Craig and Lisa Carter of Morgan, from the Morgan 7th ward, has accepted a call to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He will serve in the Korea Daejeon Mission.
Dane will enter the Missionary Training Center on Oct. 6, 2010.

Mrs. James Taggart of Lewiston, Utah and Mrs. Henry Taggart of Salt Lake City visited here a short time Sunday at the homes of their cousins Mr. Bert Dickson and Mrs. Geo Hansen. They were at Como Saturday for the Taggart reunion.
