When it comes to education most people think of the students, parents, teachers, buildings, and district administrators as the so called “village” in educating a child. In our district we have some of the best students, parents, and educators that you would find anywhere in the state. What set us apart though are the stake holders that many do not think about until there is a problem. I am referring to the support staff that we are lucky to have in our district and part of our educational team. I would like to publicly thank them for all they do and provide a glimmer of what they do behind the scenes that allows the students in our district to receive the best education possible.

After several back and forth discussions the county has made an offer to the school district to purchase land adjacent to the Fair Grounds.  With a vote of 4 to 2 in favor, the council approved an offer to the school district of $59,800.  The council also stipulated that the county would not participate in the surveying or fencing costs.  The purchase will be paid for from the restaurant tax fund.  Members Nelson and Kippen voted against the offer and member Kilmer, who works for the school district, abstained.  Member Nelson expressed concern that the county was paying more per acre than the school district had paid in their recent purchase.

A few years ago, while dealing with some serious issues and looking for a silver lining, I decided to change my choice of words when discussing challenges.  Turning a negative into a positive I now call them “Opportunities for Growth”.  I’ve also altered my salutation to those who ask, “How are you?”  Rather than using the stale phrase, “Fine”, I look them in the eye and say with enthusiasm, “I’m glad to be living in America!”

Dear Editor,

Last weekend the Morgan High wrestling team travelled to Delta to compete in an important two-day multi-school tournament.  Unfortunately a couple of our Morgan wrestlers ended up in the hospital due to some fairly serious injuries.  I was at work when I received a call from Coach Allen that our son, Christian, had dislocated his elbow during a match and was on his way to the local hospital.  My wife jumped in the car to make the three hour drive to Delta.

r more than 170 years, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been involved in doing family history work.  In 1894 the Church organized the Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU) to help individuals discover their ancestors.  The GSU at one time had members like any other society, but slowly changed into a non-profit organization without members which was sponsored by the Church to help individuals around the world find their ancestors.  As the Internet arrived and the Church began offering services online, the GSU began using the website FamilySearch.org.  This then slowly took hold until the organization was renamed last year to FamilySearch.
