Now in its 11th year, Ragnar Relay Wasatch Back presented by Maverik is right around the corner with runners preparing costumes, finalizing van decorations and getting in the last of their training mileage. With more than 11,000 runners on the course this year, Ragnar Relay has provided detailed course information to minimize the impact the race will have on daily routines and commutes.

Despite the cold and windy weather, over 60 volunteers picked up trash along a 12-mile stretch of the Weber River from Henefer to Morgan on Saturday, June 14.

This year the Morgan County Fair will be held July 28 – Aug. 2.  Animals are being raised for showing and prizes, new recipes are being tried and tasted, craft projects are starting and, of course, quilting has hopefully begun.

Over the course of its 30-year career, the Morgan High School marquee has deteriorated drastically.  Students and staff have nursed the sign along using tape, white out and other remedies to keep it going, but they are finding these methods inadequate to keep this archaic sign up to date.

Judy Bowles, 71, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Ogden Regional Medical Center.

Myles Jared Barney has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.  This accomplishment represents four years of fun, work, adventure and dedication to the Boy Scout program.  His Eagle project was to collect unopened bottles of medications (Ibuprofen and Tylenol) to take to Guatemala to be distributed to people receiving surgeries from the Utah Medical Outreach group.

Marjorie Virginia Lepley Porter, born October 24, 1941, peacefully passed away with her family in the Morgan Valley she loved on June 16, 2014.  She grew up traveling with her military family, having cherished memories of many places, her favorite being Japan.  She graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1959 and St. Benedict’s Nursing program in 1962.   She loved her nursing career and those she took care of over her 50 years of service. Her most memorable nursing moment was meeting the love of her life as a patient while working in the hospital.

 With all the changes happening within the walls of the Morgan City offices the past few months, one can expect a period of transition.  There have been many misgivings about the 4th of July celebration with all these changes, but Morgan City officials are happy to announce that the show must go on.

It is much more than a thought to co-owner of the salon, Michelle Peterson.  It is the objective: to help create those beautiful moments that will become beautiful memories. Beautiful memories have been created there for generations.

The children of Charles and Jolene Price are proud to announce the 65th wedding anniversary of their parents.  They were married on June 15, 1949, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple and have been going strong ever since.  Their love for one another has done nothing but grow over the years, and now they are enjoying their golden years content in one another’s company.

Verna Mae Lee, 85, of Green River, Wyoming, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at her home.  A long-time resident of Green River, Wyoming, and former resident of Roy, Utah, Mrs. Lee died following a brief illness.

Jean Holbrook Bohman, 95, passed peacefully into eternity at her home on Saturday June 7, 2014.  She was born October 8, 1918, to Joseph Franklin and Nancy Catherine Burt Holbrook in Ely, Nevada. She married her sweetheart Wilson Dale Bohman on May 2, 1941, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away on July 1, 2007.

Three local have lined for a spot on the June 24 primary election ballot for a chance at the Morgan County School Board District 2 seat.  Roland Haslam, Ted Taylor and incumbent Bruce A. Galbraith hope to fill the four-year position.
Both Taylor and Galbraith agree that the growth facing the school district is of utmost concern. Haslam was contacted for input in this article, but didn’t respond.

A recent Morgan High School graduate will be in court June 18 on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, felony discharge of a firearm, and carrying a dangerous weapon under the influence alcohol.

Dalton J. McFall, 24, will be in court June 18 on three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, three counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor, one count of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, and one count of lewdness involving a child.

Leland Craig Wright, 62, was born in Ogden, Utah, on October, 10, 1951, and passed away May 24, 2014 in Everett, Washington, after a nine-month battle with cancer. He is the son of Leland John Wright and JoElla Hammons Wright.

Morgan residents hear President Obama regularly; however, it is not common that President Obama hears Morgan residents.  On May 13, President Obama not only met with a Morgan resident, but also spent time learning from a small group of law enforcement representatives including local man Keith Squires.

This month marks two years since the official ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration of the Trojan Century Center. The 46,600-square-foot physical education and recreation facility sits on the district campus between Morgan High School and football field. The building houses an artificial turf practice field for football/baseball/soccer/golf, an indoor track, basketball/volleyball/tennis court and two classrooms.

Morgan youth eagerly watched the skies, hoping for a cloud free morning this Memorial Day. After a rained out flight schedule on Saturday, the young fliers were especially excited to be out in the beautiful weather Monday morning.

Beginning June 2, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is performing roadway maintenance and rehabilitation work on state Road 66, from mile post 8.74 Porterville to mile post 14.35 in Morgan. Crews will repair and replace asphalt, do earth-moving and landscaping work, install concrete structures, and place a chip seal coat over the road.

The last few months have brought many changes to the Morgan City Council.  The resignation of Mayor Jim Egbert resulted in bringing Morgan City their new mayor, Ray Little.  The domino effect of Little’s appointment to the mayoral seat was that his council seat was left vacant.
