There are many online blogs relating to family history, but one of the best is Eastman’s Online Genealogical Newsletter (EOGN) which is located at blog.eogn.com .  Dick Eastman, who writes the blog, has long been one of the best voices in what is happening in the family history world.  He attends all of the major conferences, and covers news from all of the major genealogical players.  He also writes about technology.  His practical approach to technology is a great addition to those who follow the newsletter and have an interest in learning how to use technology in their lives and to pursue family history.

In a close, four to three, vote Tina Kelley was re-elected as Morgan County council chair.  The discussion to select a new chair opened with Member Ned Mecham nominating Don Mathews for the position.  Member Kilmer seconded it.  Member Nelson raised concerns about Member Mathews travel schedule.  Mathews has attended meetings by phone several times over the past year as his work has required travel.  Member Mathews indicated that his schedule is changing and he would be present at all but one meeting in the next year.  Nelson also expressed concern about whether Mathews had time to serve the hours necessary to fulfill the duties of council chair.  Member Nelson nominated Council Chair Tina Kelley for a second term.  The council then voted and Kelley was re-elected to serve a second term by the narrow margin. Member Mathews was voted in as Vice Chair of the Council unanimously.

The other day I overheard some grumbling Grinches say how glad they were that Christmas only came once a year.  I think their cold hearts were standing to close to the warm Christmas Spirit from passing shoppers.  I listened at length to so many others who were hustling and bustling that day.  One spoke of how they weren’t sure if they’d ever get the house clean enough for visiting family members, or how long it was going to take to make all the goodies.  It sounded like they were hoping it would all be over soon so they could go back to relaxing.  As if being afraid to say Merry Christmas, or substituting X-mas for Christmas, wasn’t bad enough.  Are we going to start spelling Christmas, C-h-a-o-s?

I wanted to share some stories and memories from  Charley Pentz.

He told me about time he was hauling hay, his elevator was up Lost Creek, and all his boys were busy with sheep and other stuff, his sister Jewell’s young boys helped him. He said he got up on the truck load of hay and pitched it all off onto his haystack for them, with a pitch fork.

Over the past few weeks, Morgan Middle School students have been participating in their annual food drive to benefit the Morgan Food Pantry. In an effort to drive participation, the school created some healthy competition between individuals, classes, and grades. The 2010 food drive brought in approximately 3,800 food items, and proved to be very successful. This year the students set a goal to beat that number by targeting at least 4,000 food items for collection. As the students sought donations from family, friends, and neighbors, they truly caught the spirit of helping local families who could benefit from the generosity of their community. This extra help is especially appreciated during the holidays.

I love this time of the year.  ‘Tis the season for sweets and treats!  It’s when our inner bakers become master chefs!  I was blessed recently by a benevolent baker who sent me some angel cookies.  The celestially shaped sugary sweets were delicious!  Oddly enough, there was one that had an unfortunate pastry malfunction.  One of its wings had somehow broken off during it’s divine delivery.  However, it was still edible and incredible.
