Three local have lined for a spot on the June 24 primary election ballot for a chance at the Morgan County School Board District 2 seat.  Roland Haslam, Ted Taylor and incumbent Bruce A. Galbraith hope to fill the four-year position.
Both Taylor and Galbraith agree that the growth facing the school district is of utmost concern. Haslam was contacted for input in this article, but didn’t respond.

Dalton J. McFall, 24, will be in court June 18 on three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, three counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor, one count of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, and one count of lewdness involving a child.

After teaching music at Morgan Middle School for 27 years, Dr. Gordon Johnson retired from the school district.  In that time, Johnson estimates he has taught about 15,000 students.

Leland Craig Wright, 62, was born in Ogden, Utah, on October, 10, 1951, and passed away May 24, 2014 in Everett, Washington, after a nine-month battle with cancer. He is the son of Leland John Wright and JoElla Hammons Wright.

Morgan residents hear President Obama regularly; however, it is not common that President Obama hears Morgan residents.  On May 13, President Obama not only met with a Morgan resident, but also spent time learning from a small group of law enforcement representatives including local man Keith Squires.

This month marks two years since the official ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration of the Trojan Century Center. The 46,600-square-foot physical education and recreation facility sits on the district campus between Morgan High School and football field. The building houses an artificial turf practice field for football/baseball/soccer/golf, an indoor track, basketball/volleyball/tennis court and two classrooms.

This year the Morgan County Fair will be held July 28 – Aug. 2.  Animals are being raised for showing and prizes, new recipes are being tried and tasted, craft projects are starting and, of course, quilting has hopefully begun.

Morgan youth eagerly watched the skies, hoping for a cloud free morning this Memorial Day. After a rained out flight schedule on Saturday, the young fliers were especially excited to be out in the beautiful weather Monday morning.

Beginning June 2, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is performing roadway maintenance and rehabilitation work on state Road 66, from mile post 8.74 Porterville to mile post 14.35 in Morgan. Crews will repair and replace asphalt, do earth-moving and landscaping work, install concrete structures, and place a chip seal coat over the road.

The last few months have brought many changes to the Morgan City Council.  The resignation of Mayor Jim Egbert resulted in bringing Morgan City their new mayor, Ray Little.  The domino effect of Little’s appointment to the mayoral seat was that his council seat was left vacant.

Jeffery Manning of Morgan was awarded a Doctor of Pharmacy from the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions during Creighton University’s commencement ceremony on May 17, 2014, at the CenturyLink Center Omaha. University President Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., presided. Lannon, a 1973 graduate of the university, is the first alum to serve as president of Creighton. About 1,600 degrees were conferred during Creighton University’s spring commencement.

Just ask the 3,000 to 4,000 people who raft or tube down the Weber River in Morgan County each year.  Rafting the Weber River in Morgan County is a fun way to see the valley and a relaxing afternoon in the sun.  It’s a great activity for families or organizations, and one of the 50 things to do in Morgan County.

Unit 576 (consisting of the Troop, Team and Crew of the Highlands Ward in Mountain Green, Morgan North Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) conducted their combined Eagle Scout Court of Honor with their normal Court of Honor at the amphitheater behind the Highlands Church Building on May 16 .  Sammy Winn, first class Scout in the Troop, conducted and the flag ceremony was performed by the Troop’s 11-year-old patrol under the direction of Ethan Davis.

The World War II Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Movie Memphis Belle” will take to the skies over Salt Lake City. Public flights will begin in the morning with ground tours in the afternoon at the South Valley Regional Airport (Leading Edge Aviation FBO, 7365 South 4450 West).  Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s office is looking for vandals in Mountain Green and Milton.  A storage shed at the Milton Cemetery was damaged last week.  Damage is shown in the photo on this page.  A reward of $300 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.

The Morgan County Veterans of American Legion Post 67 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 6154 invite the community to honor and pay tribute to those brave women and men who have given the ultimate sacrifice and those who have served our great Nation.  Saturday, May 24 Poppies will be available at Ridleys  for your donation to help our disabled veterans, Poppies will also be at Hinds Quick Stop on Monday, May 26.

On Saturday, May 17, over 7,000 runners were laced up and ready to run at the Ogden Marathon.  2,500 runners lined up 26.2 miles away from Ogden’s Historic 25th Street, eight miles east of Huntsville on Highway 39.

As the season comes to an end for the Morgan High School Track and Field team, the athletes are gearing up for an exciting state race. State will be held this weekend on the Brigham Young University campus, allowing some of the fastest runners and premier athletes in the state to compete for the State 3A title.

Concrete paving is underway on Riverdale Road from I-84 to 1900 West.  Earthwork and utility upgrades continue at the intersection of 1900 West (SR-126). This area is highly congested, and through traffic is encouraged to consider alternate routes.  Roadway, utility work and drainage upgrades also continue.

The Utah Transit Authority is presenting plans for public transit service in Morgan County Wednesday, May 28 in Mountain Green.  Their presentation to the public will include options such as van pools, commuter transit from the county to four stops in the Weber/Davis county area, community shuttle, volunteer driver program and travel vouchers.

On Saturday, May 24, Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 58 from Ogden will be giving free airplane rides to 30 youth between the ages of 8 and 17.  The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Morgan Airport.  A parent or guardian will be required to complete a registration form prior to the flight.
