Wessman’s have the best catch of the Super Bowl

Story Submitted by Gretchen Richards (Mother of Kalie Wessman)

Super Bowl Sunday Feb. 5 at 3:45 a.m. in Hooper, Kalie Wessman of Morgan (who teaches at The Morgan Academy of Dance) was due to have her baby on the 16th of February.

Unbeknownst to Kalie, the baby decided to be born early.  Kalie started having contractions ten minutes apart  about 2:30 a.m.  With that much time a part for the contractions, she didn’t go to the hospital, but started getting ready.  Within a half hour the contractions were constant and one minute apart.

Wessman told her husband  Brandon, “We’ve got go now!”  So she got their 3 year old daughter Aspen and her husband Brandon and the baby stuff, all in the car to head to the hospital.  About  half way around the block, her water broke, and she felt the baby coming.

Her husband Brandon started dialing 911, with the phone balanced by his chin, he stopped the car right now, as the baby really was coming!  With his two other hands her reached out and caught the baby.

Brandon didn’t have a blanket in the car, so he took off his shirt and wrapped the baby in his shirt, and handed the baby to his wife Kalie. Within two minutes the police officers were there. In a rather frantic but  funny moment, Kalie trying desperately to get the car warmer, went to turn the heater on full blast, and instead cranked the radio up really loud!

“So we have to clamp cord right now” said Kalie, to the officers, as she is a registered nurse.  Their three year old daughter Aspen was in back seat while all this was going on. The Police officers had brought a stuffed bunny to comfort their daughter Aspen and gave her a high five because she was now a big sister!

Their new baby girl, Jocilynn weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz.  and was 18 inches long. Brandon did a great job on the delivery; he just reached over and caught the baby! The mother and baby are very healthy, and were taken in to the hospital after this amazing delivery. Proud grandparents are Gretchen Richards, and Yvonne and Dave Kennison of Morgan.

This was a perfect delivery and touchdown of this new little miracle for the Wessman’s on Super Bowl Sunday!
