It was Senior night for the Morgan girls soccer team on Oct. 5th, as the team played their last home game of the season against the Ben Lomond Lady Scots. It was also the final home game in the careers of the 5 seniors who have suited up for the Trojans for 4 years. If coach Ferrin had known how her seniors would dominate on Senior night, she may have been tempted to call  every home game "senior night", as the Trojans pummeled the visitors by a score of 5-2.  Although this win was truly a team win, the 4 seniors who played (Dani Poll is out after getting her right knee reconstruction surgery last week), contributed in a big way to the victory.
The first half was well played by both squads, with both teams having opportunities early on. The score remained at 0-0 until Ben Lomond broke through with a goal to go up 1-0.  The Trojans were able to tie things up just before half-time, when senior mid-fielder AJ Bateman found the ball at her feet after a Trojan corner kick and was able to poke it through the defense and past the keeper.
The second half saw the Trojans become very aggressive offensively, controlling the run of play, playing smart on the defensive end and not giving up any easy shots on goal to the Lady Scots. Senior Mid-fielder Becca Rees took nice pass from Junior winger Ali Peterson, turned and fired a shot from 25 yards that made it over the outstretched arms of the Ben Lomond keeper for a 2-1 lead.
A few minutes later, AJ made a run forward,  corralled a pass from Ali and fired a laser past the keeper to give Morgan a 3-1 lead.
Then it was senior forward Chelsea Fairbourns turn, as she took a through-ball from Becca and snuck a low driven shot to the right side of the net from 18 yards out to boost the lead to 4-1.
As the Trojan defense, led by a stellar effort from Senior keeper Chelsey Stegelmeier, made life difficult for the Lady Scot attackers, the forward push continued for the Trojan offense.
AJ was able to notch  a hat trick with her 3rd goal of the game, with the assist going to Becca Rees, when she fired a nice shot to the back of the net for a commanding 5-1 lead. The Lady Scots would be awarded a penalty kick and score after a questionable foul was called inside the Trojan box just before the end of the match to bring the final score to 5-2 in favor of the Trojans.
Final stats showed AJ taking 5 shots and scoring 3 goals, Becca took one shot and scored one goal and also added 2 assists, Chelsea added two shots with one goal, Megan Miner had 3 shots, Kenzi Moore and Tausha Andersen each had a shot, and Ali Peterson had 2 assists.
Stegelmeier had 9 saves on 10  Ben Lomond shots on goal, and was helped defensively by Lizzy Stauder, Madi Sunday, and Berit Hackler.
The Trojans are battling to move up in the standings with hopefully one more regular season victory against Bear River on Thursday October 7th. Inter-region playoffs will then begin with an away game against either the Region 9 first place team, or the Region 11 first place team, which is Juan Diego.
