Trojan baseball weekly recap

Article Date:
13 April, 2012 (All day)

WEEKLY RECORD 1-1, OVERALL RECORD 10-5

TROJANS 4, SKY VIEW BOBCATS 5

The Trojans traveled to Smithfield to face the 4A Sky View Bobcats in a non-regional game on  April 4th.  The Bobcats raced to a 5-0 lead after the third inning and were the  beneficiaries of some defensive miscues (balks, past balls, botched bunt defense) but also put the ball in play to start rallies.  Morgan roared back in the fifth inning, plating four runs, but the rally fell just short.  The Trojans stranded runners on base in several innings and left the bases loaded twice.  Braden Brown, Colby Skinner, Landon Carter and Lantzen Toomer each hit a double and Cameron Jarrett extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI single.

TROJANS 11, OGDEN TIGERS 2

The Trojans dominated the Ogden Tigers on April 10th, winning by a score of 11-2.  Morgan led the entire game, including 10-0 after the top of the third.  Starter Braden Daniel, who won his fifth game of the season, routinely mowed down Tiger batters.  Daniel was pulled after four innings, but re-entered in the bottom of the fifth when reliever Lantzen Toomer left the game with an injury.  Cameron Jarrett took over for Daniel in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the victory.  Jarrett had an RBI groundout and saw his hitting streak end at 14 games.  Brothers Colby and Cameron Skinner, who batted leadoff and two-hole respectively, combined to reach base seven times and score six runs.  Toomer belted a single, double and triple in the winning effort.

The Trojans, who are in second place in 3A Region 11 with one regional loss, play the first-place Stansbury Stallions at home this Friday at 3:30 pm.  With a win, the Trojans will move into a tie for first.  Come support the team Friday afternoon!
