There are all kinds of people in this world and each of them has their own individual personalities and talents. Each year, the FFA hosts a contest which appeals to a certain type of personality: those with the sweetest hearts. The Sweetheart Contest was put on in the last week of November; the results were announced at our Harvest Stomp, given at the high school.
The competitors who took part in the competition were Naomi Matthews, Kiley Matthews, Trista Mark, Katie Spens, Jessica Larsen, Tabatha Carter, Coleman Richards, and Collin Russell. During school throughout the week, the contestants were to dress up in different, specified styles such as in the likeness of their favorite teacher, a redneck, a clown, and an animal. The brave contestants were also subjected to other such activities: they shot pumpkins with an AR-15, roped a sheep, and threw tomahawks. Also, the FFA had them pulled behind a four-wheeler on a sled (courtesy of Ace Hardware). Not only did the sleds stand up to the test, but so did the contestants!
The night before the assembly, the contestants went through an interview to judge their character off of then decorated the cakes which were sold in the auction at the assembly. The cakes were decorated based on a theme: harvest. These cakes were extremely well made and I’m sure they tasted just as wonderful as they looked. Finally, the night following the assembly, our winners were announced at the Harvest Stomp: Kiley Matthews is the Sweetheart Queen, Collin Russell the Sweetheart King, Katie Spens is the Princess, Coleman Richards the Prince, Trista Mark as Miss Congeniality, Tabatha Carter as the Jester, Jessica Larsen as an Attendant, and Naomi Matthews as an Attendant.
The Harvest Ball was a hit! Our DJ was Jake Cannon, who did a wonderful job and our decorating committee did fantastic!
Congratulations to everyone who both competed in the Sweetheart Contest and helped to put on both events, you did great!
