Special needs group makes Mother’s Day extra special

Morgan’s special needs group brought a measure of unexpected joy to mothers living in an Ogden domestic violence shelter during Mother’s Day weekend.
For the past couple of weeks, the group had a collection bin set up at Hinds Quick Stop, where more than 100 purses were donated by members of the community.  On May 9, the group met at the Milton Church and in assembly-line fashion, stuffed each purse with lip balm, combs, sewing kits, vanity kits, hand sanitizer, lotion and tissues.
When Nolan and Cathy Johnson, group leaders, were delivering the purses, they stopped at a local store to pick up 100 pairs of socks and a few other items to add to the purses.  When Cathy explained to the cashier the reason for the large purchase, the cashier became overcome with emotion and noted that she had previously stayed in a women’s shelter with her mother and sister.
Residents of the Youth Community Connection (YCC) Women’s Shelter were likewise emotional at receiving these gifts.  It meant a lot to them to be remembered on Mother’s Day.
