Sons of Utah Pioneers Monument

The Sons of the Utah Pioneers, Morgan Chapter added two names to the Pioneers of Morgan County Monument located at the Morgan City Park.   Doris Sanders spoke of her Great-great Grand Father Sanford Porter.  He had come west with the pioneers in 1847 and lived in Centerville.  He moved to Morgan in 1860 and established Porterville.   

Dale Thurston spoke of his Great-great Grand Father Thomas Jefferson Thurston.  He also lived in Centerville.  After seeing the Morgan Valley while logging in the area decided that Morgan would be a great place to live.  He settled in Milton.  Both these pioneers were instrumental in developing the infrastructure within the community allowing future generations a beautiful place to live.  Attendees were DeOrr Peterson representing Morgan City, Linda Smith and Deann Fresh from the Morgan Historical Society, Robert DeBoer Area Vice President of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and local and family members.
