River Burger celebrates much anticipated opening

Article Date:
25 April, 2014 (All day)

Ten years ago Raquel Gonzalez moved to Morgan from Uruguay. Her husband Fernando had already been here for two years earning and saving money for his family to join him. After moving to Morgan and finding employment at Steph’s, Gonzalez’s passion had been ignited. Gonzalez shares, “I love cooking.” Opening her own restaurant had been a longtime dream of Gonzalez’s, one that has finally come true.
Bright and early Tuesday morning, Morgan’s newest restaurant, River Burger, opened.  Many people showed up to check out Gonzalez’s offerings with lines extending out the door. Morgan resident Sue Rees said she had been watching to see an open sign.  She said, “I am so excited to have a new hamburger place here in Morgan! I also wanted to support Raquel.”
Those who know Raquel know what a special person she is.
“She is so generous and would help anyone out,” shares Mackenzie Moore. Friends with Gonzalez’s daughter Florencia, Moore shares how supportive Raquel has always been to her and those around her, with Raquel even traveling to watch Moore’s soccer games.
Raquel puts all of her time and energy into helping others.  Their family is also supporting two children on LDS missions. Her daughter Florencia is serving in the San Jose, California mission while her son Tabaré is serving in the Kansas City, Kansas mission.
Another of Raquel’s children, Fernanda, moved to Morgan last year. She still has a daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren living in Uruguay.
With the opening of her new restaurant, Raquel will be able to serve the people of Morgan in a new way. Though it hasn’t been an easy road and there were a few hiccups in the process of opening, River Burger is now ready for customers.
For those who have been longing for the comfort of Steph’s familiar food, you will be well pleased with the menu at River Burger. If you liked the Frisco burger, you will like the Parmesan burger.  If you liked the Steph’s burger, you will love Raquel’s twist on the River Burger served on a pretzel bun.
One of the more unique items on the menu hails from Raquel’s time in Uruguay. An empanada is a stuffed, fried pastry, similar to a homemade Hot Pocket. Riverburger offers four different kinds of empanadas:  beef with eggs, ham and cheese, cheese or chicken. At only $1.50, these are not only tasty, but economical as well.
Another food popular in Uruguay makes it on the menu. The Milanesa Napolitana is beef with sauce, ham, mozzarella cheese served with a Russian salad consisting of potatoes, peas, carrots, eggs and mayo.
On warm summer days the Farr’s hard scoop ice cream and shakes will offer quite the treat. Breakfast will be served daily, from 7 to 10:30 a.m., with prices as low as $1.99 for a cinnamon roll, French toast, pancakes or cinnamon toast.
Opening day proved to be a bit of a challenge.  There were definitely kinks in the machine and Morgan City Councilwoman Shelly Betz even came to the rescue manning the front for a few hours, but everything should be ironed out and running smoothly soon.
Come out and support the newest Morgan business and get a tasty meal in return. River Burger is open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Summer hours will be from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.  For orders to go, please call 801-829-0607.
