Rich history flies above Morgan’s Young Ford

There are many American flags that proudly grace the Morgan County skyline, but there are few that have stories like the flag the flies over Young Ford in Morgan.
This flag has a rich history and carries special meaning to Young Ford’s Service Manager, Mike Jacobsen.  Jacobsen served in damage control as a fire fighter on the USS Los Alamos.  This nuclear submarine was docked in the middle of Holly Loch, Scotland in 1988 when the flag was taken from the ship and given to Jacobsen as a thank you for his service.
“Living in Scotland was amazing.  I fell in love with the lush landscapes and rich history,” commented Jacobsen.  He even plans to buy a vacation home in his Scottish home away from home soon.  “During my time in the Navy I made many friends that I am still very close to today.”
While he loved Scotland, it was comforting to see his American flag fly high on the submarine.  Jacobsen remembers this flag being saluted by sailors morning and night and is proud to see it flying now in Morgan.   “I look at that flag every time I pass it on the freeway and I hope others will too. I’m proud to see the American flag that I honored and saluted my allegiance to 25 years ago, flying at a new home for not only me, but also the Young Automotive Group,” said Jacobsen.
Jacobsen married his high school sweetheart, Denise and they have resided in Mountain Green for three years now.  Jacobsen has three beautiful daughters, Jade, Megan and Ashley and his wife brought three handsome boys into the family, Colton, Cody and Chase.  They also have one grandchild and one on the way.  His favorite pastime is spending as much time as possible with his wife and family.
A ten-year employee of the Young Automotive Group, Jacobsen says there is no better place to work.  He thrives on trying to make a difference in the business and helping customers on a day to day basis.  “It’s always great to inspire and motivate others to perform at the level they all do,” stated Jacobsen.
Last year Senator Mike Lee donated a flag to Morgan Elementary School.  On May 1, 2012, Senator Lee and some of his office staff presented Principal Tom Wolff a flag that used to fly over the United States Capitol.
When you look up and see such rich heritage in our skies, take a moment to thank those who make it possible for those flags to be there.
