New LDS church house on its way to Mountain Green

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is making preliminary moves to locate a new church house in the Mountain Green area.
The church is planned for 4.13 acres on a portion of church property known by locals as the “bowery” off of Cottonwood Canyon Road.  Since the church does not have frontage along the public road, it had to combine forces with Bonnie Brown to gain that frontage.  Brown has asked for a rezone of the property to make way for additional building lots.
Charlie Ewert, Morgan County planning and development services department director, said the church would like to have all paperwork, approvals and recording with the county done by the end of 2013.
The Morgan County Council unanimously approved the concept plan for the four-lot “LDS Mtn. Green Cottonwood Canyon Road Subdivision.”  A rezone for the area was granted earlier this year.  Preliminary approval will be next on the development timeline for the project.
While many local soccer enthusiasts are aware construction of church will likely take valuable field space away from them, Ewert said some recreational uses for the remaining church-owned property will remain.
“Nobody has ever challenged the recreational use of that church property,” Ewert said.
The new church house will join two others in the Mountain Green area.
