Wednesday, March 21, started the track season for the 2012 edition of the Trojan Track Team. Morgan hosted a five team region meet with Bear River, Tooele, Ben Lomond, and visitor St. Joseph. Weather is always a concern for a track meet but the athletes had sunshine and warmth and no wind, a great day to begin the season. The first meet is always exciting because there are newcomers to the team that are just seeing their first track competition, and the returning team members are anxious to see if they can improve on last years’ marks. Coaches have the very same feeling as the athletes; what will the new members bring to the team and how well will the older athletes perform with an added year of experience.
Four hundred athletes attending this first meet and things were busy at all the events. Everything about the meet went well, thanks to the many volunteers who assist in running a Morgan meet. Morgan is well respected by the region for the quality of meet that can be expected when you come to Morgan. The coaches would like to thank all those who have consistently offered their time to the athletes who come to participate in track and field at Morgan. Without these fine people there would be no meets at Morgan High.
After four and one half hours of competition the day came to a close and the track was silent again. The Trojans did very well in the season opener with the girls team placing first and the boys placing second.
