The Morgan girls soccer season came to an end on Wednesday October 13, losing to the defending State 3A champs Juan Diego in the first round of the State 3A playoffs by a score of 5-0.
The Morgan squad battled hard throughout, but Juan Diego plays a tough brand of soccer, bumping, pushing and holding as much as possible defensively, and making precise passes through the midfield and attacking third. Over time , the constant attack will wear opponents down.
The Lady Trojans had a handful of shots on goal, with 2 coming on direct kicks from distance by senior center mid fielder Becca Rees and senior forward Chelsea Fairbourn. Junior defender Madi Sunday, along with Freshmen defenders Lizzy Stauder and Berit Hacker, and Junior sweeper Megan Passey played most of the minutes in the back, and did a great job at trying to keep the Juan Diego attackers at bay.  Junior wingers Ali Peterson and Kenzie Moore, as well as sophomore Natasha Andersen helped in the defense, as well as pushing up to help the Morgan attack.  Sophomore Megan Miner roamed up front as a striker with Fairbourn, while senior AJ Bateman ran in the center mid field with Rees. Freshman Laura Deru also saw minutes up front as a forward. Senior Chelsey Stegelmeier tended the nets as keeper.
Congratulations  to the girls for a great effort during the season, never giving up, and showing great sportsmanship through-out.
