On Saturday, January 15, the Morgan High School Cheerleaders traveled to Timpview High School to compete for the 3A State title.
Twenty Five schools from around the state competed in their own class divisions. The cheerleaders have been practicing for the past three months to prepare for competition.
During their floor work every stunt worked and they left the floor feeling very good about their performance. The 2 ½ minute routine is very complex with a variety of difficult stunts, tumbling, cheer and dance involved. The cheerleaders knew their strong competition would be Desert Hills and Bear River.
When it was time for awards , 1st place went to Morgan , 2nd Desert Hills, 3rd Bear River, 4th Richfield and 5th Carbon.
Morgan also received four academic All State Awards. The Awards went to Alyson Porter, Lindsey Carter, Stephanie Criddle and Shannon Criddle. The state academic combined GPA was 3.94. Morgan also received more academic awards than any other school.
The Cheerleaders also competed in an open cheer competition on Saturday, January 8, where they competed against nine other schools that were all 5A schools. At the end of the day 1st place went to Bingham, 2nd Weber, 3rd Lone Peak, 4th Morgan, 5th Fremont, 6th Springville, others schools that competed but did not place were, Standsbury, Pleasant Grove and Riverton.
