Families and community members in Morgan County will have an opportunity to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the Constitution of the United States of America in a unique way in 2012. Morgan City is sponsoring twelve “Forgotten American Family Night Stories” – one story per month during 2012 – that will be printed on the back of an 8 ½” x 11” patriotic picture representing the story theme of the month.
Beginning January 2nd, the first monthly story will be available to the public via front counter display pockets in participating businesses throughout Morgan City and County. (Look for the American flag! One complimentary story per household, please!)
Each “Forgotten American Family Night Stories” will contain forgotten or little known American stories and information about the foundation of our country and the Constitution that will help strengthen and deepen our appreciation of the Constitution and freedoms we enjoy because of it. January’s theme is “The Star-Spangled Banner – Appreciation for Our Flag and Our National Anthem”.
Future monthly themes include “The Statue of Liberty – What Does ‘Liberty’ Mean to Us?”; “Ellis Island – Why Did Your Ancestors Come to America?”; “The First Amendment to the Constitution – Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, Petition”; “Forgotten Stories of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence”; and “September 17th, 1787 – Birthday of the Constitution! Preserving Its Principles”.
Opportunities for Morgan County businesses to participate, and for families, couples and individuals to help are available. (Contact Shelly Betz, Morgan City Council member, at 829-3461; or Lydia Nuttall at 876-3112.)
“Forgotten American Family Night Stories” will also be available on the Morgan City website at www.morgancityut.com and at www.morgancommunitynetwork.blogspot.com. Additional monthly theme information, references, “Who’s Your American Hero?” poster, and related family activity will be available at these sites.
Color copies of “Forgotten American Family Night Stories” can be ordered and purchased at Morgan County News, 801-829-3451.
A HUGE thanks to Mayor Egbert and the Morgan City Council for sponsoring this 2012 Community Celebration of the 225th Anniversary of America’s Constitution!
