The Morgan High Trojans were such underdogs against Judge Memorial, that Judge were not ready for the Trojans great teamwork on both sides of the ball.
The first score of the game came at the 3:43 mark with Judge kicker Pat Giggs kicking a 37 yard field goal.
It only took a few seconds for Morgan to come running back. Lawson Toomer had a 53 yard run at the 3:03 mark in the first quarter with Chase Peterson getting the extra point to put Morgan up 7-3 to end the quarter.
In the second quarter the ball went back and forth most of the quarter until Tad Sargent threw a 49 yard pass to Robbie Nelson with just under a minute left in the half. Peterson’s point after was once again good. This ended the second half with Morgan leading 14-3.
Everyone in the large crowd at Judge expected their Bulldogs to come out growling, but it didn’t happen.
Morgan kept up the best defence they have shown this season, and the offencive line moved the ball up so Peterson could kick a 36 yeard field goal with 9:33 in the third quarter. Then Morgan’s defence held the Bulldogs again and again until Tad Sargent rand a 2 yard run for the final score of the game, while still with just over one minute in the third quarter.
With no scoring from either team in the fourth quarter, the game ended with Morgan winning 23-3.
Morgan went 7-11 in passing but held Judge to 14-35. Morgan also had 223 rushing yards, and 126 passing yards.
Morgan had nine penalties for 71 yards, while Judge only had 3 for 15 yards.
We had three sacks and they had none.
We went 3 for 9 on third down attemps and Judge only went 2 for 13.
Lawson Toomer led rushing with 91 yards, followed with Tad Sargent with 84.
Passing, Colby Skinner went 4-5 and Tad Sargent threw for 2-3.
Next up is the start of the State Tournament, where Morgan is playing Hurricane at Hurricane tonight. Hurricane is the number two seat in Region 9, while Morgan finished 3rd in Region 11.
