Last week it was announced that our local Morgan AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) was the winner of the national ‘HerbaLife Wellness Challenge’. This means that one lucky AYSO team gets to pack their bags, shine up their shin-guards, and get ready for the soccer adventure of a lifetime in Honolulu, HI for seven days and six nights.
HerbaLife is a national sponsor of AYSO. Their products help to promote health and wellness, and this year they asked approximately 900 AYSO regions to participate in encouraging wellness within their community. The results of each region’s efforts were to be reported through an essay and with an AYSO Board member photo submitted to HerbaLife. AYSO Regional Commissioner, Amy Clark wrote the winning entry. She described the “Soccer Mom Challenge” which took place here in Morgan during January and February of this year. Her essay described the challenges a mom faces when juggling busy kids, yet the hardest thing moms’ have to do is: to take care of themselves. She mentioned that if mom’s take care of their health both physically and mentally (spiritually), they have more to offer their children. Those adults who participated in the local “Soccer Mom Challenge” were eligible to win prizes from HerbaLife, Lone Tree Fitness, AYSO, and even the Salt Lake REAL if they committed to exercising for six weeks or to registering their children early for AYSO summer soccer camps.
While the airfare, hotel, and tournament fees are paid for, these youth will still be required to pay for transportation and meals while they are there. The team is trying to find sponsors to cover some of these additional costs, as well as, to help some more adult chaperones to accompany the team. If you would like to contribute anything to support these youth who will be representing Morgan in Hawaii during the last week of June, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also deliver your donation to soccer registration next weekend, May 19 at the Morgan North Stake bowery between 9 a.m. and noon. To find out more about the “Soccer Mom (and Dad) Challenge” for next year, please “Like” Morgan Utah AYSO Soccer on Facebook. Let’s keep Morgan County rated as the healthiest county in Utah! We would also like to thank our local HerbaLife representatives, Eddie and Sandra Hartman for all their support.
AYSO provides quality soccer programs to over 550 youth in our area and we are in desperate need of fields to play on. If you can donate land or other expertise, please contact AYSO or the Morgan County Recreation Board with your ideas. You can also go online and take a short quiz about sport safety, to help AYSO win a community grant of $2500 which they plan to use toward fields. We need every adult in the community to participate in order to win. Simply go to http://www.responsiblesports.com/community_grants/default.aspx, take the ‘parent’ or ‘coach’ quiz and credit our local Morgan AYSO soccer! Deadline is May 31.
