17 August, 2012 (All day)
Morgan Middle School is excited about this new school year. We have lots of fun things planned. The sixth grade will have their back to school night on Aug. 22 at 5:30 p.m. to get things started. Aug. 23 will be the first day of school and will be a full day of school. Our PTSO is sponsoring a Back to School Bash fund raiser on Aug. 24 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the middle school. The Bash costs $10 to attend and there will be activities and megatoys. Those who attend should plan on getting wet. There will also be drinks and food for an additional cost. For more information on the bash, contact PTSO President Shalece Sanders 801-876-3458.
Our School Community Council will be holding elections on Aug. 28, 29 and 30. This year we have five parent openings on the SCC and would like all parents who have children attending the middle school to come in on one of those days to vote. This year we have nine parents on the ballot for the SCC, they are Sue Craven, Jennifer Vesper, Suzy Fackrell, Shalece Sanders, Ralene Blocker, Matt Allred, Brad Westenskow, Courtney Gualco, and Ryan Cook. We would like to thank them for their willingness to serve and run for election.
We have three new teachers that will be working with our students this year. Kade Morrell will be teaching 7th grade science, Joshua Hobbs will be teaching art and Chandra Nelson will be teaching both 7th and 8th grade science. These are all great teachers and we look forward to having them on the Middle school team.
This year also brings with it changes in our traditional start times here at MMS. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday classes will begin at 7:40 am and school will conclude at 2:25 pm. On Wednesday our teachers will be meeting in grade and content level PLCs from 7:15 a.m. – 8:20 a.m. and then will be in their classrooms available to parents and students from 8:20 am – 9:20 a.m. We recommend making appointments with your teachers during this time but it is not required. On Wednesdays classes start at 9:25 a.m. and conclude at 2:25 p.m.
Information about additional activities will be made available throughout the year as each draws closer.
Another item that will be new this year will be our tardy policy a copy is provided here for parents to go over with their students. Teachers and staff members will be in the halls encouraging all of our students to get to class on time.
MMS Tardy Policy
Morgan Middle School believes that academic success is directly correlated to attendance. Teachers, administrators, students, and parents must work together to ensure that students are present and on time to school and class each day. The following tardy policy is cumulative for all classes and is cleared at the beginning of each quarter.
1st Tardy- Student is warned, reads and signs policy indicating they understand what is expected of them.
2nd Tardy- Student phone call to parent. Parent/Guardian is notified that on the next tardy they will be required to sign attendance contract indicating they understand the tardy policy.
3rd Tardy- Parent/Guardian is required to sign a contract regarding tardy/lateness to school. Student will be required to serve one lunch detention if the contract is not returned within three school days.
4th Tardy- Parent/Guardian is notified and student is assigned one lunch detention.
5th Tardy- Parent/Guardian is notified and student is assigned two lunch detentions.
6th Tardy- Parent/Guardian is contacted. Student is placed in ISS for the remainder of the school day.
7th Tardy- Parent is contacted and the student is placed in ISS for one school day.
8th Tardy- Student is placed in ISS and is required to attend a reinstatement meeting with their parent(s) and the Administration prior to their return to class. During this meeting the student may be placed on a behavior contract.
At Morgan Middle School we look forward to serving the students of Morgan County and if we can ever be of help please do not hesitate to call 801-829-3467
