Thursday, June 10, was meet the candidate night in the county. The Republican Party sponsored this even to help voters get to know the candidates in advance of the primary election. There were about seventy individuals who attended the meeting. Representatives of Mike Lee and Tim Bridgewater, the Republican candidates for the US Senate position currently held by Senator Bennett, made statements on behalf of the candidates who had previously been scheduled that evening at an event elsewhere in the state.
Jon Hellander and Mel Brown spoke as did Jeremy Barker and Ned Mecham, who are running for the County Council At Large Seat B, and Robert Kilmer and Larry Hatch who are running for Council at Large Seat A. Amy Clark and Clay Rich were unable to attend that evening.
The candidates had up to seven minutes to explain their positions. Once all the candidates had made a statement, the floor was opened for questions.
If you were unable to attend the Meet The Candidates night in person you can listen to the candidates statements and answers by visiting the website of The Morgan County News and clicking on the “Meet The Candidate” link. Recordings of the statements by each of the candidates as well as the question and answer session will be available.
