Captain Jonathan LaThell Mecham recently returned home to his wife, Celeste Mecham, and daughters, Cristina and Lisa, in Italy from a 12 month deployment to Afghanistan with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in support of Operation Enduring Freedom X.  During the deployment he served as Company Commander for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team and then as the Battalion Communications Officer for 1st Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment.
For his service in Afghanistan, Jonathan received the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the NATO ISAF Medal.
Celeste served as the Family Readiness Group Leader for the Brigade Headquarters providing information and support to the families of more than 200 soldiers, and most importantly, provided personal service and attention to all of the families who were in Italy.  For her exceptional service she was recognized with the Heart of Victory Medal from Brigadier General Ryan, Acting Corps Commander.
Jonathan is the son of Paul and Peggy Mecham of Morgan, Utah.  He is a member of the Morgan High School Class of 1996 and a Graduate of Weber State University.
The Mecham Family is currently stationed in Vicenza, Italy and would like to express their heartfelt and sincere thanks to all those who supported them throughout the difficulties of their second deployment.  Every letter, email, Facebook post, package or phone call made a difference to Jonathan in Afghanistan as well as to Celeste and the girls in Italy.
