Kenny's Style & Barber Shop is the new 'stylin' place in town! Karen Tucker, barber for 25 years, just opened Morgan County's new barbershop.
Karen’s shop is located in Suite B of the Parkside Lanes Building.  For the opening of her new business on Wednesday, Morgan Mayor Jim Egbert did the official ribbon cutting to make the opening of her new business in Morgan County official.
Karen grew up in Morgan and was a graduate of Morgan High School. She has six children and nine grandchildren that she centers her life around.
“As a graduate from Utah Technical College, I thought it was very fun to do shaves, haircuts, and tapers for men's hair as compared to styling women's hair. It was more precise and something I became very skilled at.”
Karen also lived in Texas for 18 years.  While working as a barber there, she was voted Texoma's (Texas and Oklahoma region) Best Barber.
The name of Karen’s new business, “Kenny's Style & Barber Shop,” was named in memory of Karen's father, Kenneth Tucker.  Kenneth was very supportive of Karen throughout all of her schooling, and he was a great influence on her life. He encouraged Karen to always follow after her dreams in life.
Kenneth Tucker was born in 1924 and passed away in 2000.  He loved Morgan, and he taught his children to support Morgan in every way they could.
Now, Karen feels she taking his advice and doing just that by becoming a business owner in Morgan.  “He was always a wonderful example to me. Along with haircuts, he supported me in everything I did and always encouraged me to do the best I could. Without him, I wouldn't have my own shop, and I wouldn't be where I am today.”
One memory Karen has of her early barbering days is a time when snow-blowers were just new on the market.  She said of the experience, “I cut probably five older gentleman's hair that had fingers missing from snow-blower accidents, so that was interesting for me to see and kept me from trying to figure out a snow-blower by myself.”
Karen loves the wonderful atmosphere in Morgan County.  She always feels like friends and neighbors are close by to help.  Karen gets a lot of support from the Morgan Eighth Ward High Priests and her mother Nedra Tucker Allen.  Karen is grateful for the help from them in each step of this business venture.  Because of their help, Karen’s dream is now a reality.
Karen has a one spot left open for a stylist at Kenny’s Barber Shop.  She is looking for someone who is personable and that will add to the shop’s personable atmosphere.
Walk-in hours at Kenny’s are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Karen provides free haircuts as a service for missionaries that are heading to the MTC.  She also does baby's first haircut for free.
As Karen continues to settle into her shop, she is hopeful that the nerves of starting up a business will become less.  She is sure that she will gain confidence as she establishes herself in her new place and as she gets into the daily routines for her employees and customers.
Karen specializes in men’s and boy’s haircuts.  She takes great pride in her work and is looking forward to helping Morgan’s men be well-groomed and look their best.
