On February 3rd and 4th, nine local Morgan youth wrestlers attended the Utah Folkstyle Super State Tournament held at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. These boys wrestled kids from all over the state of Utah in some of the toughest matches of the year. The wrestlers who attended were Ryler Jorgensen, Will Korth, Ryan Sazama, Jarrett Jorgensen, Wyatt Ashby, Wyatt Wheelright, Chase Trussell, Owen Pentz, Andrew Allen, Wyatt Ekblad, Antonio Nava, and Carlitos Nava.

The wrestlers who placed in the State Tournament were:

Will Korth 1st place State Champion (1st-2nd grade, 55 lb division)

Jarrett Jorgensen 2nd place (3rd-4th grade, 55 lb division)

Carlitos Nava 4th place (7th-9th grade 90 lb division)

Wyatt Ekblad 3rd place (7th-9th grade 175 lb division)

The Super State tournament was an outstanding event that helped bring the quality and professionalism of the High School Championships to the younger wrestlers in the state of Utah so that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a “big-time” experience.

The championship matches were held on a raised “thumper” mat, and the wrestlers participated in a parade of champions where they were introduced to their opponents as they ran through a cloud of fog and a wild crowd. State champions were awarded with trophies over 4 feet tall, and a custom “State Champion” singlet. To award the best of the best, the top six wrestlers in each division also received trophies.

Utah has a proud traditions of producing some of the premier wrestlers in the nation, and Morgan is no exception. These wrestlers have chosen a sport that is not only physically grueling, but mentally challanging as well.

This event will wrap up the youth folkstyle season in the sate of Utah. Most of these wrestlers will be taking a few weeks off, and then jumping right back in to another season of Freestyle and Roman-Greco style wrestling. Utah spring season wrestling starts at the end of February and runs through the end of April. Please visit www.morganwrestlingclub.com for more details on the upcoming youth wrestling season.
