Saturday, July 14, at 6 p.m., Morgan City will be bringing you a free concert at Riverside Park. The concert will feature Amy Oaks Baker, daughter of Dallin H. Oaks. Grammy nominated artist Jenny Oaks Baker is one of America’s most accomplished violinists. She received her Master of Music degree from the renowned Juilliard School in New York. She has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Strathmore Hall, the Library of Congress and as a guest soloist with the Jerusalem Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the Utah Symphony, the Orchestra at Temple Square, and the internationally acclaimed Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She has released ten albums since 1998. They have sold more than 150,000 copies and consistently charted on Billboard, including the #1 spot on the Top Classical Albums chart. Her recent album, Wish Upon a Star, earned a nomination for the 54th GRAMMY Awards for Best Pop Instrumental Album.
Jenny will be joined by Daron Bradford, Jared Oaks, Lysa Rytting, Nicole Pinnell and Todd Sorenson. Daron Bradford is a part-time faculty member of the School of Music at BYU, teaching saxophone and clarinet. He has performed with the Utah Symphony, Utah Saxophone Quartet, Lyra Recorder Quartet, Utah Baroque Ensemble, and other local groups on clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophones, double reeds, flute, and voice. Daron currently is the principal clarinetist with the Orchestra at Temple Square.
Jared Oaks, a native of Tacoma, Washington, is beginning his fourth season at Ballet West as Associate Conductor, Rehearsal Pianist, and Music Librarian. Since joining the company, he has conducted in over sixty Ballet West performances at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City. In 2011, the American-Scandinavian Foundation awarded Jared a fellowship to create an anthology of Swedish operatic arias.
Lysa Rytting graduated from Brigham Young University and also received the Premier Prix in harp performance from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she studied with Susanna Mildonian. She has soloed with the Utah Symphony and Utah Valley Symphony. She has performed with many well-known musicians, including Josh Groban, David Archuleta, Jackie Evancho, Jenny Oaks Baker, Kurt Bestor, Yanni, Pink Martini, Mannheim Steamroller, and Keith Lockhart.
Nicole Pinnell studied with Peter Howard, duo partner of Pinchas Zukerman. She performed in Carnegie Hall at age 14, competed actively, and won awards in several national and international competitions. She played with the Utah Symphony, Sun Valley Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony and Ballet West. Currently Nicole is on the faculty of Utah Valley University and teaches privately in Salt Lake City. Nicole has been on stage with artists such as Leonard Slatkin, Joshua Bell, Quincy Jones, Jeff Hamilton, Led Zeppelin, Josh Groban, Mark O’Conner and Placido Domingo.
Todd Sorensen is one of the finest multi-faceted musicians today. He has over 25 years of experience in the music industry. He is most recognized and in demand as a session drummer and percussionist as well as an arranger/composer. His music has been found in film trailers for such blockbuster as Spiderman 2, X men 2, and others. His interest and experience in music production has lead him to develop a new music library venture called “Anarchy Music” providing world class promotional and production music to the industry.
