Ken Hicks was honored as the Morgan County recipient of the 2013 Utah Silver Bowl Award at a ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel in Provo, Utah, on April l6. A luncheon was given in honor of volunteers throughout the state featuring Bob Evans of Fox 13 News as master of ceremonies.  Remarks were offered by Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell and LaDawn Stoddard of the Utah Commission on Volunteers.
Hicks is the proud husband to Dale and they have been married for almost 54 years. They have seven children, 17 grandchildren and are expecting their first two great-grandchildren within the next few months.
Ken has served in many positions with the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years with training in Silver Wolf and Wood Badge.  He enjoyed being a member of the Mountain Green Kiwanis for many years and was also active in the Nevada Jaycees serving as vice president and international director.
While serving an LDS mission in the Marshall Islands, he served as Chaplin for the Lions Club and Bill Fish Club.  His wife, Dale, served as the mission nurse.  Ken was affectionately known as “Bob the Builder” while there.  His service included home repair and yard work for the elderly.
At the Morgan Senior Center he donates many hours by participating in  programs and activities as well as providing transportation to an elderly neighbor who is blind.  One of his favorite services is to drive the senior van for outings to civic and religious events.
A very rewarding experience for him has been as a volunteer teacher doing home schooling with an emphasis on helping children with learning disabilities.  He has also very proudly served his church for over 50 years and served four years on the Morgan Planning Commission.  Currently he is the chairman for the annual yard sale for the Utah Sons of the Pioneers - Morgan Chapter.
