On Saturday, May 17, which is also Armed Forces Day, the Morgan County Pilot’s Association and the Morgan County Airport Advisory Board will be sponsoring the Fourth annual Veteran’s Recognition Day beginning at 10 a.m. at the Morgan County Airport (located at 5000 Cottonwood Canyon Rd., Mountain Green) to recognize and honor all veterans from all branches of service.
The Pilot’s Association invites all citizens and veterans from Morgan and nearby counties to come and mingle with one another, swap stories and view the static displays of various aircraft and military vehicles.
There will be a tethered Hot Air Balloon ride available from 7 to 9:30 a.m. All veterans with veteran identification will be given a FREE Hot Air Balloon ride!
Veterans from our own Morgan County’s American Legion Post 67 and VFW Post 6154 will conduct a flag ceremony at 10 a.m. followed by a possible Stearman flyover, depending upon the weather and pilot availability.
They’ll have a patriotic talk at 11 a.m. and like last year, we will have several veteran motivational speakers from 12 noon to 2 p.m. to tell it like it was to fly those dangerous combat missions of WWII, Korea, Viet Nam and others, and to return from those missions to talk about them.
All veterans are invited to bring personal stories and memorabilia, medals, etc. they would like to share. These are just some of the men and women who fought to preserve the freedoms we currently enjoy.
There will also be Lunch available starting at 11 a.m. and run through 1 p.m. for a small donation. There will also be precision flying demonstrations of radio controlled aircraft around mid-morning.
All these events will be held on the airport’s new east side ramp and taxiways. Event parking will be available in designated areas on the east side of the airport accessible through the airport’s Willow Creek Rd. access gate. We encourage all to park in this designated area (follow the Airport Event parking signs) rather than the normal west side entrance.
So, come one, come all to this great event to honor, recognize and show our appreciation to all our veterans, active and inactive who have served in the air, on the ground, on and under the oceans to protect this great nation. Come and have a fun day and bring your camera.
