DUP quilt winner announced

Article Date:
21 September, 2012 (All day)

The annual opening social for the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) was held on September 11, 2012.  The social was held at the DUP Museum where the theme, “Preserve the past – strengthen the future” was announced as the theme for 2012-13.
Members were welcomed by Jennifer Archibeque, company captain, followed by a personal history given by a representative of the Mountain View camp and a lesson was given by Betty Jan Murphy on pioneer handbags and purses.  Refreshments were provided by the Mountain View and Weber River camps.
The highlight of the night was the annual drawing for the beautiful quilt made by the Mount Joy camp that was displayed at Ridley’s and the Morgan County fair.  The winner this year was Arvella Fawcett.
The meeting is held each year to welcome members and encourage new members of DUP to participate in camp meetings.  It also helps perspective members find out what DUP meetings are all about.
A Utah pioneer is anyone who entered the Utah territory before the completion of the railroad on May 10, 1869, or died on the way.  A native pioneer is someone who was born in Utah before May 10, 1869.  If you are a woman from 18-110 years-old and have an ancestor who fits into this criterion, then you may become a member of DUP.  However, any woman, regardless of ancestry, is welcome to participate as an associate.
Future events include:  National museum day, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. -6 p.m. at the Morgan DUP Museum; International Convention, Sept 29, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Davis Conference Center; Arts and Treasures Boutique, Nov. 9, from 3-6 p.m. and Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Morgan DUP Museum.
