The County Council has been handed a challenging situation as they meet in a special session of the council on Tuesday June 21 to fill the council position recently vacated by David Gardiner. Only two individuals gathered the necessary signatures and applied for the position, Donald Mathews and Austin Turner.
Both Matthews and Turner are the candidates that have filed to run for this position in the fall election. One of these two of these individuals will be elected in the November election.
The council is in the unenviable position of judging which of the candidates is most qualified before the voters make their wishes known in the fall. The candidate that wins will likely have an advantage in the election in the fall given their involvement on the council.
It will make for an interesting meeting on Tuesday as the council wrestles with this decision. Tuesday night, however, the council will have a new member until the election in the fall when the voters will have the final say in the person they choose to represent them.
