“It’s all about family” is a fitting motto for the Skinner household. Joey and Lisa Skinner have been blessed with four wonderful children: Shantelle (married to husband Nate), Colby (currently serving a mission in Mexico), Cameron (a high school senior), and Tucker (eighth grade). A new highlight in the Skinner family has been the addition of Shantelle and Nate’s baby girl, Brielle. Joey and Lisa love their new role as grandparents.
This budding family lineage all started with a young man raised in a small southern Arizona town who grew up loving to team rope. This young cowboy, Joey, made the determination to serve a mission for the LDS church. This significant decision eventually led him to meet his future wife, Lisa. Joey served in the Puerto Rico mission. After returning home, he took a trip to Delta, Utah, (Lisa’s hometown) to visit a friend who had served in his mission. It was through this friend, who as luck would have it, was also a friend of Lisa’s, that they were introduced.
Joey went to Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University, where he earned his degree in electronics. He then pursued further education at Weber State University, earning a degree in engineering. Their education paths did not cross. Lisa’s journey took her to Southern Utah University and Utah State University, where she sought her education.
Having grown up in small towns themselves, the Skinners decided they wanted to raise their kids in the same small-town atmosphere they grew to love. Their search for a suitable environment eventually led them to Morgan, where they have spent the last 16 and a half years blessing the Morgan community.
Service has always been a passion for Lisa, who has enjoyed working in the PTSO, teaching students to dance at MMS or serving on the Scholarship Board. Joey has also served the community diligently. He recently resigned from his position on the Morgan County School Board to take on another role, that of stake president of the Morgan Utah Stake for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Between his new calling, and his job as a senior software product manager for the accounting and business advisory firm Eide Bailly, Joey is certainly keeping busy. In his free time he likes to develop and design computer games. Lisa enjoys cooking and crafts whenever a rare spare moment becomes available. However, their true hobbies and passions are all about the family.
The Skinners have made family time a big priority. They can always be found running around with their kids and new granddaughter. They cherish being together and actively support their children in all of their activities. Some of their favorite memories are from family vacations like going to Disney World and going on a Disney cruise. Just last month, the Skinners were able to celebrate with the state championship winning Morgan High School basketball team, of which their son Cameron was a starting member. Whether it be the big events that come along or living their simple day-to-day life such as taking care of their one-acre property with their horse and animals, the Skinner family loves to enjoy it together.
