On Sunday, October 9, Renn and Valeri Hoopes had their twenty-ninth wedding anniversary. Both make important contributions to our community as educators at Morgan High School.  Mrs. Hoopes teaches Biology and Mr. Hoopes is the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. The couple has worked here all fourteen years that they have lived in Morgan. They both grew up in Star Valley, Wyoming although they weren’t high school sweethearts. Mr. Hoopes’ sister encouraged him to take her friend Valeri on a date, and the rest is history! They were married in Star Valley, Wyoming and sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mr. Hoopes was an all-state football player and wrestler in high school. He came from Star Valley, Wyoming to Utah on an athletic scholarship. He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Weber State University and later completed master’s degrees in Education and Sports Psychology. He also went on to earn his Administrative Master’s degree from Grand Canyon University. Mrs. Hoopes attended BYU, BYU Hawaii, Weber State University, and earned her Biology Composite degree at SUU. She has been teaching for twenty-six years. Mr. and Mrs. Hoopes both taught in Cedar City before coming to Morgan, Mrs. Hoopes teaching Biology and Mr. Hoopes coaching wrestling and football.

The Hoopes have four children: Stacey, Casey, Kylie, and Kody, who is a junior at Morgan High School this year. Stacey and her husband Eric live in West Virginia with their three children, the Hoopes’ only grandchildren so far. Casey and his wife Ariel live in Logan where they are both attending college. Kylie is currently finishing cosmetology at the DATC. Mr. and Mrs. Hoopes both feel that Morgan is a wonderful place to live and raise children. They truly enjoy working with the students of Morgan High School. Mr. Hoopes believes that being a lifelong learner is extremely important.

As the couple celebrates this happy occasion Mr. Hoopes comments endearingly about his wife Valeri, saying that she is “a good person, and a great homemaker.” This couple is an influential part of our community. Happy 29th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Hoopes!
