Boys chase girls through Morgan

Our little valley is known for its many outdoor, active events.  This year a new event is coming that will bring a little competitive edge to the normal marathon scene.
The “Boys Chase Girls” half marathon starts at Snowbasin ski resort on May 24.  Spring is the perfect time to run in Morgan County.  The hills are especially green and everything around you is bringing forth new growth.
This beautiful run will definitely inspire growth in its runners.  It begins with a one mile hill climb then runs down Snowbasin Road to Trappers Loop.  It will go down hill to the Old Highway Road where the terrain will finally level out in a rolling hills format. The course will finish at Enterprise park.
Girls start this race 30 minutes prior to the boys and their goal is to beat every boy on the course.
If the girls prove their superior running skills by finishing first, they will receive an extra medal in addition to their finisher medal.
The race is put on by local company, On Hill Events, LLC.  The company was established in 2007 and will manage and produce 15 races in 2014.  On Hill Events moved to Mountain Green in August of 2012 as a home business but has administrative offices in Morgan at the Northfront Center.
The name of the company came from Joe Coles, owner and race director of On Hill Events.  Joe’s Grandfather ran his last 26.2 mile marathon at the age of 80.  Joe says his grandfather was never over the hill but always on it.  Like his grandfather Joe hopes On Hill Events can benefit communities with economic impact, charitable contributions, and healthy living lifestyles.
Every race contributes to the community in charitable contributions or in kind donations to youth groups.  This includes providing youth free entries into races.  One of the youth groups that benefits is the Island View Group of Clearfield.  This rehab location assists youth who have gotten into addictive items like drugs or alcohol.  “They support a few of our races with volunteers and we love to support them with free entries into our events,” said Coles.
On Hill Events LLC the producer of Boys Chase Girls Half Marathon has a great volunteer program. Those that volunteer for this or another race prior to the race date get a $50 credit towards a future On Hill Events Race up to 13 months from the date you volunteered.
Volunteering is very rewarding and registering early will guarantee you a custom race shirt for your support. Volunteers hand out water, aid, direct runners, and or help out at the finish line with timing or medals.  If you are interested in helping by volunteering please use this link below to register. Volunteers for credit must be 14 or older but those under 14 are welcome with a parent or guardian.
