On Saturday, May 18, the Morgan County Pilot’s Association and the Airport Advisory Board sponsored the third annual Veteran’s Recognition Day at the Morgan County Airport.
Veterans from all branches of service attended despite the rainy conditions of the day. Veterans from Morgan County’s American Legion Post 67 and VFW Post 6154 conducted a flag ceremony. A Stearman flyover was scheduled but was postponed in hopes that skies would clear up.
Citizens and veterans mingled and shared stories while preparations were made to move most of the displays inside the hangar including the radio controlled aircraft models that are usually set up outdoors to facilitate precision flying demonstrations.
Events were held on the airport’s new east side ramp. It was a great event with nearly 100 attendees despite Mother Nature’s intervention.
There was finally a break in the stormy weather toward the end of the event and a few residents were able to enjoy a biplane flight. According to Jim Nickerson, many locals commented on how nice the new east side ramp was. Organizers look forward to repeating the event next year.
